Polyurethanes are being used in the production of high-performance insulation materials with light, modern, durable and versatile properties for the construction industry.
Both polyurethane foam (PUR) and polyisocyanurate foam (PIR) are produced from two components, a mixture of isocyanate (MDI) and polyol. While MDI and polyol components for PUR are applied in a balanced ratio by comparing their molecular mass, PIR production uses a high amount of MDI and additives to react to this excess MDI. PIR insulation products have excellent combustion performance and reduce flammability as a result of special additives and reaction of MDI surplus.
Due to the closed cell structure, both PUR and PIR have excellent thermal insulation properties. The rigid polyurethane offers a much better lambda (thermal insulation factor) than other thermal insulation materials. The high thermal insulation performance of rigid polyurethane (PUR / PIR) reduces heating costs and reduces CO2 emissions from sources used to generate heat.
